ST. PAUL CHURCH, DIU

St. Paul's church is dedicated to our Lady of Immaculate Conception. The construction of the church was started in 1601 and was completed in the year 1610. The main façade of the church is perhaps the most elaborate of all Portuguese churches in India.

Through the main doors of St. Paul’s Church young boys are coming and going in white cotton shirts and deep blue shorts. On the left of the building, below an arching roof, a single small door gives way to darkness and shadows, the faint rigid line of a wood bench. The St. Paul’s church, a 400-year-old cathedral in Diu, which is an island and a part of Daman and Diu, one of the union territories in India is dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.’ Founded in CE 1600 by the Jesuits as a seminary, it was later rebuilt in CE 1807.
