The Church of Sinquerim, was built by the Count of Linhares in 1630, on a hill very close to the Fort of Aguada for the soldiers of the Fort. It was handed over to the Franciscans in 1636. It was detached from Candolim parish to become a new parish church in 1688. The Franciscans left in 1776. The monument of St. Lawrence was built in 1963. At the Sinquerim plateau, a ribbon used to be traditionally tied from the Fort Aguada to Cabo, which the then General of Rivers would cut and to throw the sandbar open for navigation. The colourful ceremony was held in front of the dome-shaped chapel of St Lawrence (controller of winds) raised to a church in 1668. It is also known as the Linhares Church since it was given to the Franciscans by a deed dated 22-11-1636 by its founder the Count of Linhares. More...

On the Sinquerim hill stands the Church of St Lawrence offering a pleasant view of the sea. Nobody knows the reason why this saint is associated with the sea. Some like Annie Siveria, a housewife from Sinquerim, says that probably the saint is dear to the fishermen because from the sea the only two things visible are the lighthouse at Aguada and the Church of St Lawrence. Located en route to the historical Fort Aguada, the St Lawrence Church Linhares was built in 1630 in honor of St. Lawrence, who was known as the 'controller of winds' and as the 'patron saint of the sailors'. The dome shaped church houses some wonderful structures of the risen Jesus Christ with his legion of angels.
